Much fewer Moths this morning.

Monday 11th August 2025.

A Canary-shouldered Thorn was potted last night and released this morning.

It was clear last night with a cloudless sky which probably explains the lack of Moths this morning, but at least there were a few to look at though nothing new for the year.

My Moth Box:

Marbled Green is always a nice moth to get in my garden.

Yes, there was a disappointing number of Moths this morning and with the daytime temperatures going to be very hot this week, I did expect a few more than today. Just 23 moths of 15 species recorded this morning and the Canary-shouldered Thorn this morning was one I potted last night, though it did look a bit poorly first thing this morning. A Marbled Green, Blushed Knot-horn and a Narrow-winged Grey were all new for the month.

Narrow-winged Grey.

The Moths present this morning included the following:

Matt & Emma’s Moth Box:

Matt & Emma had two of these Poplar Hawk-moths this morning.

The Moths present in and around their Moth Box this morning included a Dingy Shell and a Light Emerald, which were new for the year for them, while other Moths present include two Poplar Hawk-moths and a Copper Underwing. As I said to the guys, I wish they would come my way!
